L.A friday june 8

In L.A on friday we watched a movie called get a clue its bast on a book we juist finished called the westing game.I dont think the book is very much like the movie but thats just me.This is the second day we have watched it and were almost done with it. I think if I had not read the book Iwould have liked it more.

In science today we had a work day that means that we could work all class on are weather unit projects. Are projects consist of definitions, labeling maps, labeling pictures, and forecasting weather. There is also an extra credit paper to write about the greatest force in weather.Its a great and fun project.

In math today we took a quiz on coordinate grids.The first part of the quiz was all vocab and th second part of the test was plotting points.After the test we started learning about isometry which is turning, flipping, and sliding shapes on coordinate grids.

In math today we made are room into a grid with x and y axes. One person would stand on the origin an the another person would tell the person an ordered pair the person on the origin would then walk that many spaces horizontally then vertically.

Here is a coordinate grid in the game the person would stand on zero then move horizontally then vertically.

North India

In class we watched a movie on North India and learned many things, like that the cow is a sacred animal and that India has an extensive railway system. The Gangys is a very long river in India and is very sacred. People come to pray from all over India. It is a very dirty river because people throw dead animals and dead people and other things that pollute the river. People say the Taj Mahal Agra is the most beautiful building in the world. It started being built in 1621 and took over 22 years to build. It is the birth place of the religion of Krishna under Hindu and has many ceremonies and beliefs such as Carma. Carma is the belief that what you do tomorrow is determined by what you did today. A thing to remember in India is not to drink the water and always check tops of water bottles to make sure kids don’t find a water bottle and fill it up and sell it. Corbett National Park was the first park in India. It has over 100 species of birds and 30 elephants.

So many of the things we use today are made from crude oil or liquid petroleum, such as tires, tennis rackets, trash bags, tooth past, drugs, detergents, and fertilizers are all made from it. The US has only 4% of the earths population but guzzles about 25% of its oil supply. Have you ever thought about living with out oil well the worlds available petroleum supplies are going to run out. No one nos how much oil is left in the ground but scientists think about 2.6 trillion barrels. About 1.7 trillion barrels are what we call “discovered” oil-oil that we have found but not yet pumped.The remaining 900 billion barrels are “undiscovered”oil-oil that hasn’t been found. In 1956 geophysicist M.king Hubbert introduced the concept of the oil production peak. Hubbert predicted that the oil would peak in about 1970-and it did. Using Hubberts formula, world oil will peak in about 2030. Natural gas like oil is nonrenewable the longer the world waits to turn it into energy the more shocking the change will be.

Today in math we started to learn about Rates, rate is the measurement of something happening like your heart rate or how much money you get an hour.

The Byzantine Empire

The Byzantine Empirewas from 667 BC - 1453 BC. It’s capitol was Constantinople after Constantine The Great, During much of its history it is known as the empire of the Greeks due to the dominance of Greek language and culture. The word byzantine comes from “Byzantium” which is the Greek name for the city on the Bosporus. The Greeks settled in the area first, in the mid 600’s BC. Greek culture continued its influence long after the region became part of the Roman Empire, in the 100’s BC. It was when Roman Emperor Constantine The Great moved the capitol of the empire from Rome to Byzantium and renamed it Constantinople. In 330 AD the Byzantine Empire really began. It lasted over 1000 years, ending finally in 1453 when the Ottoman Turks conquered Constantinople and renamed it Istanbul.

Queen of the Mountain

Kit Deslauriers is a ski teacher in Jackson Hole, Wyoming but on October 18th she broke through her daily routine and hiked up Everest the worlds’ tallest mountain, with 13 others, one of which was her husband Rob. Deslauriers didn’t just plan on hiking up, but she planed on skiing down the 29,035 foot high mountain. She has now skied the highest peaks on all seven continents. Deslauriers does not just ski down high peaks, but she also holds the 2005 world and U.S. titles for freeskiing in which competitors perform jumps, flips, and tricks.
